The Story of Marcus Garvey and Becoming Marcus teach close reading, analytical writing, and critical thinking. They join Garvey’s belief in the power of the mind with the deeper habits of thought that the age of AI rewards.

When foundational skills and these habits are taught together through metacognition, students do more than practice thinking. They learn how their own minds work. That is what the age of AI demands, and it is what every lesson is built to develop.

Geoffrey Philp has spent more than three decades teaching Marcus Garvey’s philosophy in classrooms, communities, and living rooms across the African diaspora.

Founder of The Garvey Classroom LLC and the Mabrak Books imprint, Philp teaches at the Marcus Garvey Education Academy, founded by Dr. Julius W. Garvey. His courses and educational resources have earned the endorsement of Dr. Julius W. Garvey and Professor Rupert Lewis of the University of the West Indies, Mona, for their fidelity to Garvey’s vision and their power to reach young people.

A recipient of the Silver Musgrave Medal in Literature from the Institute of Jamaica, the Marcus Garvey Excellence Award in Education from the Consulate General of Jamaica in Miami, and the Marcus Garvey Community Service Award from the Rootz Foundation, Philp is among the most decorated Garvey educators working today.
